Sci-Fi Friday: The Last Human
I look out over the water from the top of my narrowboat. The sky is crimson and gold as the sun rises. Ducks swim past searching for a bite to eat.
"Sorry fellas no bread here."
I sip my Yorkshire tea savouring the sweetness, this time I'd been decadent and put two sugars in.
It's quiet and I'm happy. The Earth is dying and science had found a way to save us - finally. It took them bloody long enough.
All around the world people are stepping into dimensional portals and heading to Earth 2.
I imagine it's chaos over there as people scramble to claim land and resources having learned fuck all from the mess they've made over here.
I chomp on my bacon buttie. It's perfect salty bacon with a hint of brown sauce. Just as the Earth is now perfect and so deliciously quiet. I'll be staying, if I'm lucky I might get a few years before asphyxiating on the increasingly toxic atmosphere but I've had my time and when I die it won't be on some alien surrogate planet. I take another sip of tea and watch those clear skies lighten.
